Holiday Hours for Thanksgiving

Closed for Thanksgiving (re-opening at 8:00am on 11/28)

Our Mission

To provide high quality and efficient urgent care for community pets. VetMedic doctors will work in collaboration with primary and specialty doctors for those patients who cannot be seen by them on an urgent basis. VetMedic will therefore be filling a much needed gap in today’s progressively busy veterinary industry.

Dr. Baruch Caballero

Dr. Caballero was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He then attended the University of Florida, Gainesville for his undergraduate studies.  He graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008.  After completing a clinical year at University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, he and his wife (Dr. Derse) moved to the Libertyville area.  Together they have two daughters, two dogs and one cat (however this pet list changes frequently!).

Dr. Caballero has dedicated his career to veterinary emergency and specialty hospitals as an emergency room clinician.  He has practiced in both the northern suburbs and Chicago throughout the years.

Dr. Jami-Lyn Derse

Dr. Derse received a B.S. in Biology and Zoology from University of Wisconsin-Madison, her doctorate from Ross University of Veterinary Medicine (St. Kitts, West Indies), and did her clinical rotations at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Derse is the founder of Veterinary Housecall Care, LLC, a comprehensive home visit vet service that provides personalized and compassionate care for pets in the Chicagoland area. Prior to starting VHC, Dr. Derse dedicated her career to veterinary emergency and specialty hospitals as an emergency room clinician in Lake, Cook and McHenry Counties.  Since starting the business in 2013, she has treated over 2000 cats and dogs on a house-call basis in Lake and Cook counties.
